Why you should care

AI has been taking over our world, helping us build solutions to human problems, making our tasks more efficient, as well as being a tool to generate content. This is not necessarily a bad thing, but sometimes AI-generated media looks real and can mislead people, especially kids. This toolkit is about making kids aware of what's possible with AI, using AI in beneficial ways, and being able to differentiate real from fake AI. I did not find a dedicated resource online to empower kids with tools to think twice about AI, so I built one.

Get Involved

Our success depends on parent involvement. To share your view on AI when it comes to kids, fill out this 2-minute survey to tell us what you would like us to build.

Learn how other parents are contributing to the research. We used a mix of surveys and interviews to understand parent's views on the impact of AI on kids.

Here's how kids have been participating in our research. If you are a middle or high schools student, please share your views on AI and if you found our toolkit helpful. To do this, fill out this 2-minute survey to tell us how effective our tools were.

Interviewing Parents

"Generative AI has its superpowers and its shadows and we need to teach kids how to use it in a beneficial manner, be aware of how things can go wrong, and be able to differentiate AI generated media from real content."
"Teach younger kids to think before they share their financial data, location information, private health details and so on to a chatbot."
"How can parents be more aware and guide their kids on beneficial ways to use AI?"
"I think being born in current times is exciting. It's like being born when fire or electricity was first created, and the potential is infinite."

Survey responses from kids

"I was more informed on how easily AI could deceive a human."
"It made me more aware of the content I perceive every day. "
"I don't use it as much on homework.

"I double check my work to make sure my work sounds right. "
